Fall 2025 Men's Pickleball League

Notes

Format of Play

  • Static teams each week (partners remain the same for a given match day). Captains will determine line-ups on a weekly basis according to player availability.

  • Line ups and match organization: Teams will field 4 lines (8 players) per match day and captains will rank players 1 through 8 by DUPR rating or approximate skill level. Players 1 & 2, 3 & 4, 5 & 6, 7 & 8 will be paired up and compete in two rounds. Round 1: Team 1 vs Team 1, Team 2 vs Team 2, Team 3 vs Team 3, Team 4 vs Team 4. Round 2: Team 1 vs Team 2, Team 2 vs Team 1, Team 3 vs Team 4, Team 4 vs Team 3.

  • Match/Round Format: Best 2 of 3 games to 11 points

    • Game 1 & 2 capped at 15

    • Game 3 played to 7 points (cap 11)

  • Winner Determination:

    1. Match wins (Bo3 Wins)

    2. If tied, total games won

  • Timeouts: Each team is allowed two 1-minute timeouts per game

  • Side Changes & Determination:

    • Game 1 Players may determine who chooses Side/Service/Receive/Defer by spinning their paddle and choosing up/down (based upon the orientation of the paddle handle cap), rock paper scissors, or flipping a coin.

    • Game 2 – switch sides

    • Game 3 – switch sides & switch again at first team to 4 points

  • Defaults/Retirements/Subs:
    • If a team doesn't have enough players to field all the lines, they will default from the bottom up. Line 4 would be defaulted first, and so on. If someone is hurt, and they must retire from the match, the game they retired in will be recorded as a loss without a score and as a win for the other team.
    • Subs may be used in between the first and second rounds to replace a player who is hurt, has to leave early, or if someone didn't show for the first round. A sub may not enter in the middle of a round or game, other than to play socially while other matches finish up.
  • Coaching is not permitted by teammates/spectators/captains/pros from off the court. It is the home team and captains' responsibility to remind any spectators of this.
  • When play is over, players are encouraged to play socially as long as they can.
  • Hosting clubs have discretion to provide any brand of ball available.

  • Play once vs. every other team in your league

  • Account setup (DUPR & TopDog) required for all participants

  • Results will be uploaded to DUPR
